2.9.6.2 Elizabeth Gertrude Sampson
[Last amended: December 27, 2003]
Elizabeth Gertrude Sampson was the second known child born to Olivia Barnett and Hanry Atkins Sampson. She was born on March 1, 1868, at 17 Penn Road Villas, Holloway, MDX.
At the time of the 1881 census, Elizabeth was a border at the same school as her older sister Cicely: Redland Rd Summerbrook Ladies School, Reading St Giles, BRK. She was 15 and a scholar.
At the time of the 1891 census, Elizabeth was working as a governess for Henry Stables at Scotland House, Clare House, Horsforth, Yorkshire (West Riding). She was 23 and single. Her name was given as Gertrude Elizabeth so it is possible that she was known as Gertrude rather than Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was mentioned in the Will of her cousin, Eva May Barnett, who died in 1915. At that time she was living at Gorse Moor, Southborough near Tunbridge Wells.
Elizabeth died on July 1, 1934, aged 66. According to the probate index, she was of Pineview, Pinewood-gardens, Southborough, Kent. Administration of her estate was granted in York on August 25, 1934 to her sister, Cicely Sampson. Her effects came to £1,193/3/9.
