2.9 Joseph Barnett

Joseph Barnett, the nineth and final child and fourth son of Thomas Barnett and Sarah Williams, was born in Remenham, Berkshire, on August 4, 1796 and was baptised there on September 1, of that year.

Joseph married Hannah Olivia Allingham, a widow. The date and place of this marriage is currently unknown.

In 1851 Joseph was a farmer of 380 acres employing 11 labourers and 4 boys. He was 53 years old and living in Remenham.

The 1861 census gave Joseph's age as 65. His residence was Common Barn Farm, Horseshoe Common, Remenham. He was still listed as a farmer of 360 acres employing 9 men and 4 boys.

Joseph appears in the 1864 Post Office Directory for Berkshire under Remenham as a farmer.

Joseph died on November 24, 1865 at Remenham Hill. He was 69. Cause of death, according to the death registration, was disease of brain. He was buried on November 28, 1865 in the churchyard at Remenham where his parents and grandparents were also buried.

Joseph's Will was proved at the Principal Registery on December 29, 1865 by Hannah Olivia Barnett of Remenham Hill, Berks, widow, the Relict and George Sturgeon of 3 Lower Kenningston Lane, in the County of Surrey, gentleman, the Executors. Effects were valued at under £1000 and resworn in August 1868 as under £300.

Hannah Olivia Allingham was born about 1802 in Badger, Shropshire (SAL). She married Thomas Watts on 27 May 1826 at St. Bartholomew The Less, London, followed by Joseph Barnett.

Hannah died on April 24, 1875 at St Margaret's, Downshire Road, Reading, BRK. She was 73 years old. She was buried on April 28, 1875, at Remenham.
