2.8.2 Benjamin Barnett

Benjamin Barnett was the second child and first son born to William Barnett and Ann Matthews. He was born on May 26, 1828 in Hambleden, Buckinghamshire and baptised two days later, on May 28. The baptism entry in the parish register stated that he was the son of William and Ann Barnett of Rockwell End, farmer.

At the time of the 1841 census, 12 year old Benjamin was living with his family at Saunderton Grange, Saunderton, Bucks. He was still at Saunderton Grange at the time of the 1851 census. He was unmarried and listed as a farmer of 220 acres employing 8 labourers. In 1861 he was still in Saunderton with his parents and unmarried. He was still a farmer. By 1871 Benjamin was out on his own. His abode was given as Slough Farm, Saunderton. He was a farmer of 140 acres employing 3 men and 2 boys, supposedly aged 45 and unmarried.

Benjamin married Selina Harvey in 1879.

By 1881 Benjamin had moved to Naphill Walters Ash in Hughenden, Bucks. He was a farmer of 17 acres. and his age was given as 51. In the household was Selina and the first of their children: 3 month old William Herbert Stanley Barnett.

The family had moved to Northern Woods, Wooburn, Bucks some time between 1887, when Frederic Owen was born, and the 1891 census. Benjamin was still farming in 1891.

Benjamin died on March 20, 1892 in Northern Woods, Wooburn. He was 62. He was buried at Wooburn.

Selina Harvey was born in 1856 in Aylesbury, Bucks, the daughter of Henry Harvey. Following the death of Benjamin she married Edward Henry Ecclestone on April 13, 1895. Edward was a painter and decorator. Selina, then 43, and Edward were living at Spring Gardens, Bourne End, Wooburn in April 1891. Selina was widowed again in 1902. When and where Selina died is currently not known.
