2.4.4.2 Francis O "Frank" Barnett

Francis O Barnett was the second child of James Barnett and Eliza Collins. He was born on April 12, 1853 in Medina County, Ohio. Francis was a family name with James having a younger brother of that name who had died young. In addition, he had an uncle, Francis Brangwin, also carrying that name. It is probable that Francis was named after one or both of these kinsmen.

Francis was a twin of Mary. He was known as Frank.

Frank, with his brothers, Henry and Arthur, and his father walked from Medina Co to Providence Township when the family relocated when he was twelve.

After completing his schooling Frank helped on the family farm until 1878 when, at the age of twenty five, he struck out on his own. He farmed in Kansas for a time before moving to Siver Cliff, Custer Co, Colorado where he worked in a silver stamping mill as a teamster. He was in Silver Cliff on June 29, 1800 when the census was taken. He returned to Ohio in 1881. For a short time he ran a butcher shop in Bairdstown, Ohio before joining the railroad. He later returned to farming.

Frank married Lucinda Hartman on April 10, 1883. Lucinda was the daughter of Emanual, a farmer, and Leah Hartman and she had been born in Pennsylvania on August 22, 1885. Her family had moved to Ohio shortly after her birth and were living in Providence Township, Lucas Co at the time of the 1870 census.

In 1888, when his father died, the family farm was split up among the children and Frank inherited 40 acres facing Pollock Road. He never farmed this land himself but settled near the small village of Custar, in Wood Co, Ohio, just south of Grand Rapids.

The 1910 census recorded Frank, aged 56 and a farmer, along with Lucinda(54) and Lela (14) living in Custar Village, Wood Co, Ohio.

Lucinda died on April 9, 1924 and was buried in the Milton Township Cemetery, near Custar, Ohio.

Frank died on May 27, 1927 in Richmond, Indianna, where his daughter Gayetta lived. He was 74 years old. He, too, was buried in the Milton Township Cemetery.
