2.4.4.1.8 Esther Glee H Pollock

Esther Glee Pollock was the eighth child and youngest daughter of Mary Barnett and James "Jim" Pollock. She was born on March 25, 1892 in Ohio and was known as Glee.

Glee taught for a short time but decided on nursing as a career. She graduated from the old Flower Hospital School of Nursing, in Toledo, on June 1, 1915. She served as an army nurse in World War 1 and in 1918 during the terrible influenza epidemic she was stationed in Kentucky. Glee caught the flu and died tragically in Taylor, Kentucky on October 13, 1918, aged 26.

Miss Glee Pollock, 26, Flower Hospital nurse, has paid the supreme sacrifice.

Two weeks ago she volunteered for service at Camp Taylor, Ky. She died in Louisville Sunday of influenza. James A. Pollock, faculty manager at Waite High School, was called to Camp Taylor Saturday by the illness of his sister and is returning with the body Monday.

While in Toledo Miss Pollock made her home with her brother at 1024 Prospect avenue. She is survived by her parents Mr & Mrs James Pollock, of Grand Rapids, O., four brothers and two sisters.

Glee is buried inthe Mt pleasant Cemtery, Lucas Co, Ohio.

For years there was a plaque in her memory in the Flower Hospital, Toledo.
