2.4.4.1.7.3: Ronald Howard Pollock, PhD

Howard Pollock was the third child of Benjamin H Pollock and Mary E "Mae" Barnes. He was born on May 30, 1923 at Waterville, Ohio.

Ronald graduated from Grand Rapids High School, Grand Rapids, Ohio and The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education. Advanced degrees were also earned in Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business and Marketing.

After serving in the Army during WWII, Ronald married M Rosemary Jeffers on June 1, 1947. They had five children: Sue, Angia, Ted (born April 17, 1951; died January 10, 1952), Lynn and James who died tragically on January 17, 2004. Ronald and Rosemary eventually divorced.

Ronald began his career in 1948 working as a Vocational Agriculture Instructor at Pettisville High School, Pettisville, Ohio. In 1951, he became an assistant professor in The Ohio State University College of Agriculture followed by the position of Business Manager. In 1967, he became a Project Officer for The State Department in New Delhi, India. Assignments in South Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, and the Philippines followed.

Ronald married Tran Thi Nhu Quynh in March 1976.

He retired in 1988 as a USAID Agricultural Officer in New Delhi, India.

Ronald died of pulmonary fibrosis at his home in Sun City, Arizona, on December 14, 2003. He was 80 years old. His body was donated to Science Care, Inc. for research and organ donation.

Ronald was survived by his wife, Quynh, daughters: Mrs. Richard (Sue) Keys, Yuba City, CA, Mrs. Matthew (Angia) Pfirsch, Findlay, OH, Ms. Lynn Morrison, Columbus, OH, a son James David Pollock, Lancaster, OH, a brother, John D. Pollock, Whitehouse, OH, twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

A son, Ted Lee Pollock, a brother, James Pollock and a sister, Virginia Hartsook, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Waterville area, followed by burial in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Ohio.

The Memorial Service for Ronald was held on Saturday, January 17th at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids, Ohio at 2:00 pm. On his way home from the service, Ronald's son Jim was killed in automobile accident.
