The 1901 census listed Sydney as a flour miller living in Mill Road, Marlow, Bucks. He was single and 27 years old.

In 1902 Sydney married Nora Silver Wright. They moved with their son, Leslie Stephen, to New Zealand sometime before the birth of their daughter, Nora Mary "Molly", in 1910.

Sydney died on July 20, 1956 in Auckland, NZ.

Nora Silver Wright was the daughter of Sidney Havell Wright and Ellen Silver. Ellen had been born in Reading, Berks, and married Sidney, a paper manufacturer, born and living in Great Marlow, Bucks, in 1874. Nora was their second child being born in 1877 in Great Marlow. She died from TB in 1914. Sydney was reputedly so devasted by her death that he did not mark the grave.
