2.4.3.2.2 Catherine Agnes "Katie" Hobbs
[Last amended: May 9, 2003]
Catherine Agnes Hobbs was the second child of Joseph Overton Hobbs and Catherine Malone Devlin. She was born on May 22, 1883 in Tooele, Utah. She was known as Katie.
Katie was a horsewoman and liked to race other horse riders. It was said there weren't any men who could beat her. She loved to dance and wear glitzi dresses, and there were a lot of parties at the Hobbs farm.
Katie married Carl Nabaum on January 18, 1905. Carl, who had been born on June 21, 1876, had emigrated from Germany with his Mother in 1885. They built their home on State Street in Murray, Utah. In 1920 Katie and Carl were living in Marray. They were aged 35 and 41 respectively. Also listed were their children: Sherman (12), Millie (10) and Overton (8). Carl was a laborer at a smelter.

Carl died on December 10, 1928, aged 50, and Katie was widowed at 45 years of age. She was an excellent business woman, and she had a commercial building built next door to her home, which she later sold along with her home as the acreage became commercial. This event made it possible for her to live comfortably in her declining years, as well as providing an inheritance for her family.
In 1930, Katie and her children were living in South State Street, Murray City, Salt Lake County, Utah. She was listed as a widow with no occupation.
After the death of Carl, Katie married two other times. First to Ed Harman, and then to Jack Leggett. She died a widow on May 22, 1972, at the age of 89 years, in Murray, Utah.
