2.1.7 Joseph Barnett
Joseph Barnett was born at Shiplake, Oxfordshire, in 1821, the fourth and youngest son and seventh child of Thomas Barnett and Caroline Bassigny. He was baptised at Shiplake on May 28, 1821.
At the time of the 1841 census, Joseph was living at Rotherfield Greys, Oxfordshire and was 19 years old. No occupation was given.
In 1851 he was working on his father’s farm, Satwell Farm, situated at Rotherfield Greys. He was 30 years old and unmarried.
Joseph married Emma Ball on November 5, 1854 at Paddington, Middlesex. They were married by licence. Both were of full age. Joseph was a bachelor, farmer, of Bix, Oxfordshire. His father, Thomas Barnett, was a farmer. Emma was a spinster of St James, Paddington. Her father, Thomas Ball, was a farmer, too. The witnesses were William Pooley and Mary Ann Southern.
The 1881 census has Joseph living in Village Street, Brightwell Baldwin, Oxon with his wife Emma and daughter Rose Caroline. His occupation is given as farm bailiff and his age was listed as 55.
Emma Ball was born in Hereford around 1832.
